My name is Janvi, and I am currently a junior from St. Louis, MO. I am very excited to be part of the iGIANT team as a youth ambassador. I have been a part of furthering iGIANT’s message since June after the Health Occupations Students of America International Leadership Conference(HOSA ILC) in Orlando, FL. As part of HOSA, I received the opportunity to pursue my passion for medicine through competitive events(I actually ended up placing 3rd out of over 700 students in the National Geographic Human Anatomy test!) as well as listening to some amazing speakers like Dr.Mark. I came across Dr.Mark’s seminar(now what I know was more like a small roundtable) almost on accident as I was simply looking for a seminar to attend. After hearing about the issues in technology that iGIANT was looking to bring about change in and foster gender/sex inclusivity in, I was automatically super intrigued. I ended up receiving the book Stellar Medicine after the seminar for my own input regarding how these issues have touched my own life. Reading the book probably faster than any other book in my life, I knew I had to reach out and see how I could get involved. After that, I found myself immersed in iGIANT’s work, helping to organize social media accounts as well as updating the website with new advances in the field.
Other than my involvement in HOSA, I participate in Science Olympiad, Science National Honors Society, and National Honors Society and have won awards for all of these activities at the local, state, and national level. I have also created an elementary school science initiative where I get to bring science to the elementary school students in an interactive way from a high schooler’s perspective. Additionally, I love doing research and am currently doing my own research regarding the transformation of two novel plasmids(Invasin and Hemolysin E) into E.coli to reduce tumor growth in C. elegans. I hope to bring my passion for molecular biology to iGIANT as gender/sex differences are fundamental in medicine and must be considered especially in the development of cures to many of the world’s “unsolvable” diseases like cancer. Additionally, through my involvement at iGIANT, I hope to bring the ideas and issues the company highlights to my community, a community deep-rooted in corporate influence and gender/sex discrimination.
